I was teasing my sister earlier about how she just needs to put on some holiday music and get festive. I have a special love for Christmas and holiday music. Growing up as a musical kid meant I spent the later half of the year preparing special pieces for holiday concerts, and of course, the concerts were always fun times and good excuses for people to gather and have a night off. And (if you subtract horrible mall muzak and smooth jazz renditions) Christmas music is just pretty, isn’t it?
And right as I typed this, we had our annual nearly-set-the-house-on-fire fireplace season kickoff incident, which is always how I know the holidays are coming. So, in that spirit, here’s one from one of my favorite Christmas albums: Michael Chertock’s Christmas at the Movies. It’s all solo piano and everything on it is just beautiful.
