Made it up to Tarn Hows this week. I can’t say it enough: The English Lake District is ridiculously, gently beautiful. The rolling hills were covered thigh-deep in fluffy ferns, spotted with wild foxglove and it was even sunny. The lake itself was hosting a large patch of water lilies with bright pink flowers. We shared the walk with a couple of hungry cows. A very good adventure, all in all.
We also went to Beatrix Potter’s house, Hill Top. I was introduced too late to Peter Rabbit to really ever learn to appreciate it, but I can appreciate how much Potter did for the Lake District. She donated nearly 4000 acres to the National Trust when she died, (including Tarn Hows) and it’s why so much of this area is still preserved.
